Welcome, Dr. Zeznock! Dr. Heather Zeznock, Board Certified General Surgeon, was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. As a life-long Alaskan who always New Providers wanted to return to practice medicine in the Land of the Midnight Sun, Heather is familiar with the grit and toughness that Alaskans possess; it’s one of the reasons she loves treating patients in her home state.

Earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, Dr. Zeznock attended medical school at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Washington. She completed her five years of general surgery residency at St. James Health in Chicago, Illinois, where she honed her skills in minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques. She enthusiastically returned to Alaska after and has been practicing in the Mat-Su Valley since 2020.

Dr. Zeznock treats what is referred to as “the bread and butter of general surgery;” appendix, gallbladder, hernias, colon cancer, and breast cancer. She enjoys performing a wide variety of surgical cases, aspiring to provide the most advanced and compassionate care to the members of the community.

“The Alaska attitude helps. People from Alaska are just more open, upfront and genuine, and patients really appreciate that; when you can just tell them the facts and tell them what you would recommend for your loved ones,” she said. Focused on growing breast surgery services at Capstone, such as surgical procedures needed after cancer diagnoses, Dr. Zeznock’s dedication to expanding this focus area is one of the many reasons we are excited to welcome her.

Welcome, Dr. Nicholas Bahl! Dr. Bahl, a Board Certified General Surgeon originally from Minot, ND, brings with him a strong dedication to serving the medical needs of patients who come to him for care. No stranger to cold temperatures and a down-home way of life, Dr. Bahl joins us with a passion for making positive impacts with individuals and in the community.

Dr. Bahl completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Dakota before attending St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his medical internship at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Odessa, TX, going on to pursue a rigorous surgery residency at HCA Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME: Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Tampa, FL.

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Bahl is a dedicated Captain in the Alaska Army National Guard. Prior to his assignment in Alaska, he served in the Florida National Guard, deploying to Albania as part of Defender Europe 2021, where he provided crucial medical support to his fellow service men and women.

Dr. Bahl has been practicing his surgical skills in the Mat-Su Valley and brings to Capstone a strong resolve to serve his community. He is deeply dedicated to providing Valley residents with a wide spectrum of surgical care, including laparoscopic, open, and robotic surgical techniques, all performed with a compassionate and personalized approach. In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. Bahl and his wife Sydnie, along with their three beloved rescue dogs, have made Wasilla their home. They are avid recreators, enjoying activities like downhill and cross-country skiing, mushing and other outdoor adventures that allow them to enjoy the scenic backcountry of the Last Frontier. Dr. Bahl’s warm demeanor and appreciation of Alaska and the people who live here make him a trusted and welcome addition to the Capstone family.
